Bio:

Karthikeyan Umapathy is currently working as a Professor at the School of Computing, University of North Florida (UNF). He is a co-director of Florida Data Science for Social Good (FL-DSSG). He is the 2018 - 2022 recipient of the FIS Distinguished Professor in Computing Award. Dr. Umapathy received his Ph.D. in Information Sciences and Technology from the Pennsylvania State University. His research interests center on designing and developing complex information systems and data science solutions, as well as empirically investigating the practices of educating computing professionals. He utilizes service learning to offer students a real-world software development experience by identifying projects from nonprofit and small business organizations. He works closely with local software development companies to engage them in his courses. He creates a wide variety of opportunities, both within and outside the curriculum, to help students gain technical expertise and experience in providing professional services. He is an IEEE Senior Member and UNF Community Scholar. He is an editorial board member of the Journal of Information Systems Applied Research and Analytics (JISARA). Dr. Umapathy is a board member of the St. Johns County School District IT Advisory Council and UNF MedNexus.
